the making of tos

fyspock:

1) The sheer weight of Spock fan mail received each week is staggering. Unless extreme measures are taken, Leonard Nimoy’s public appearances rapidly assume the proportions of a full-scale riot.

7) On Shatner and Nimoy being dorks during the filming of Shore Leave: Someone came up with the idea that Bill Shatner should leap on the tiger and wrestle it down. Bill took to the idea right away, and no amount of pleading from Gene Roddenberry could make him change his mind. Gene diplomatically tried to convince him a Starship Captain is great, but not that great. Bill insisted on wrestling the tiger, until Leonard Nimoy finally said, “ Bill, you don’t have to wrestle the tiger. I’ll just pinch him.” Later on in the day, Bill and Leonard were trying to explain the “Spock pinch” to director Bob Sparr, who didn’t know what it was all about. Bill explained, “Here, let me show you what it looks like.” He went over to Leonard, and applied the Spock pinch. Leonard just stood there, smiling. Bill tried again. Nothing. Then Leonard said, “ This is how it really works.” He casually applied the pinch to Bill, who promptly fell down, unconscious. Sparr just stood there, incredulous. Star Trek is definitely not a show for new directors.
